Trash, written by Andy Mulligan, is about three dumpsite boys named Raphael, Gardo and Rat. Their lives changed after Raphael finds a bag. In the bag, there was a wallet containing ₱1,100, papers, 2 photos of José Angelico’s daughter and an ID card. They also find a small key inside a folded map. The next day, the police came to the dumpsite saying that they had a “friend” who lost a bag. They would pay ₱10,000 to the person who finds it and ₱1,000 to every family in Behala. After hearing this, Raphael knew he was in big trouble. His Auntie almost told the truth about Raphael's findings. Fortunately, he was smart enough to lie. But the police became suspicious of him and his best friend, Gardo that they’ve decided to keep a close eye on them. The two best friends decide to hide it with their friend Rat for a few days. With the help of Rat, they find out that the key was for a small locker in the train station. They set out early morning to the train station to open the locker. Inside, they find a letter waiting to be delivered for a prisoner sealed up in a brown envelope. Inside the letter was a very strange and mysterious code. In Part 1 of Trash, there are two themes. The first one is Police Corruption. An example of this is a quote from Gardo “If the police think you’ve got something, they won’t stop ‘till they’ve got it from you” page 35. This means that everyone in Behala is afraid of the things they know because they know that the police can be quite corrupted and violent. Another example is an another quote from Gardo “When the police get mean, you don’t want to be around.” page 29. This explains that they will threaten you or tear your house apart because they are taking advantage of you because you are poor, which means that you have no protection from them. The second theme is Dangers of Poverty. One example is when Raphael says “The dangerous bit was going to be the locker. They’d assume right away that we were thieving.” page 40. This means that when anyone sees you and think that you are stealing, they would report to the police straight away. And the police would most likely send you to prison. Another example for this is when Raphael says “a couple of kids looked at us with a kind of mean-eyed suspicion, like this was their territory – which it was.” Page 39. This means that if they get angry or over-protective of their territory, they might tell the police to get rid of you. Finished ;D ;D ;D Good enough?

Trash - part 1 Raphael is a dumpsite boy that looks through garbage hoping to find something but all he finds is stuppa, him and his best friend more like a brother and his name is Gardo have to look through garbage every single day. Raphael makes 200 pesos on a good day but in a bad day maybe fifty. Suddenly one day they find a ‘special’ bagthat belongs to person called Jose angelico they took a look in it they found a map, locker key, 10,000 pesos and a picture of a girl. So they were happy because they had money. But they were also asking their selves who is that girl ‘his daughter maybe’. but then after they went home and the police came and asked them if they found a bag therefore Raphael said ‘no’ and he also tried to look innocent but his auntie said that they found something but never said what was in hence the police asked what was in it an Raphael replied ‘there was a shoe in it’ but the police were suspicious so Raphael gave his bag to his old fellow Rat, rat lives in a tunnel full of rats. But now they were wanted so they ran away by a train but there were boys looking angry at them because it was their territory so they ran fast and rat was the fastest so they were trying to catch up to him but when they jumped they were seen by people they jumped off the train quickly but after that they found the locker that they were looking for but they were trying to like like they had the right locker so people don’t get suspicious so they opened the correct locker and found a jail code so they said ‘what if he is a killer and we are stopping the police to catch him’.so they went back to their Auntie and she regretted that she told the police that they found something because now they are wanted. Therefore they have to escape from the police.

Summary of Part 1 Trash is a book written by Andy Mulligan. It is a story about 3 boys named Raphael, Gardo and Rat. The story begins when Raphael finds a bag that has money and a key while he working at the dump site. One day, there was a police came to their place to find the bag but the boys hide them. The police was still trying to look for the bag and very suspicious about the boys. The 3 boys went to a station to find a locker because inside the bag there’s a key so they want to know what is in the locker but they only found a letter and weird code :S One of the themes in Trash is Police Corruption and violence. An example of this is when Raphael says “when the police get mean, you don’t want to be around” (page 29). This means that the police can be violent if they become angry. Another example is when Raphael’ auntie says “do you really think they’ll give it” (page 34). Means they will make the people work without paying. The second themes in Trash are the dangers of poverty. An example of this is when people have “built their homes right up to the line, because the ground is flat and clear. Every now and again the homes get torn down and the people get shipped out.” (page 36). This means that the house got destroyed and people get kicked out. Another example is “Maybe they’re at the station now, opening every locker. Waiting for us” (page 38) means the police or guards is waiting for them and so they can arrest them.

Ms. Katrina~. Here is my new part 1 summary I hope its ok.. Summary about ¡®Trash¡¯ Part 1 Minju 7D Trash, written by Andy Mullligan, is a story about a life of three dumpsite boys named, Raphael, Gardo, and Rat. This story takes place at the dumpsite of Behala. There was a boy named Raphael who lived in a dumpsite in Behala, with his two friends, Gardo, and Rat. One day, Raphael and Gardo found a bag with money, a map, and a key. They decided to not to tell anyone, except for Rat, and their aunt. The police came to the dumpsite to ask people about the bag. Gardo and Raphael decided not to tell them. Nobody told anything. So the police said that if they tell the them where the bag is, they said they will give more money to them. So Raphael¡¯s aunt told the police that Raphael found the bag. Raphael was surprised that he said he found a shoe, instead of a bag. The police said that they are going to come again next day to ask them again. The boys, including Rat discussed about what they are going to do about the bag. They thought that the police will really give them money, but after talking for a while, they thought that they might not. They might just take the money from a bag and they will just use it only for their good. After few days later, they went to station to find a locker to open with a key they have. In the station, there were station boys, police and the other people. Gardo kept on worrying about police because if they get caught, they knew what police will do to them. They can get a real thrashing. After when they rode a train, they went over a bridge to find a locker. After few minutes of walking, they found the locker, but the station boys were around. Raphael, Gardo, and Rat opened a locker, and there was a strange code, and letter in an envelope. The code didn¡¯t make any sense. They still didn¡¯t know what that code means.

This is my new one. I hope its ok, is it? :D
The book I am writing about is called ¡®Trash¡¯ and the author is Andy Muiiligan. The three main characters are Raphael, Gardo and Rat. They are all dumpsite boys, picking rubbish in Behala dumpsites. They cannot earn money a lot, so they are all poor and skinny. The setting of this story is a dumpsite in a town called Behala.
The story starts when Raphael finds a leather bag, and a wallet with a folded-up map, a key and eleven hundred pesos inside. He found this bag while working in the dumpsite. He only told Gardo about this bag. One day, lots of policemen came to the dumpsite to find the leather bag that Raphael has found. They said they¡¯ll give money if the dumpsite people find the leather bag or help to find the leather bag. But Raphael and Gardo didn¡¯t tell the policemen that they¡¯ve found it and hid it in Rat¡¯s house; because they thought it was the safest place. Rat said that the key inside the bag is the station locker key. So a few days later Raphael, Gardo and Rat went to the Central Station to found out what¡¯s inside the locker. Fortunately they didn¡¯t get caught by any policemen or guards. Rat opened the locker and found a letter to Colva Prison and a weird code inside a brown envelope.
One of the themes in Trash is ¡®Police Corruption¡¯. An example of this is when Raphael says ¡°Do you really think they¡¯ll give it?¡± (Page34). This means that the policemen will make the people work without paying. Another example is when Raphael says ¡°When the police get mean you don¡¯t want to be around¡± (Page29). This means the police will hurt them when they get angry. A different example is when Raphael¡¯s Auntie says ¡°Everyone knows what things they do¡± (Page34). This means that everyone in Behala is afraid of the violence the police are going to do to them. The last example is when Raphael¡¯s Auntie says ¡°Ours will be the first, you can bet on that. If they take it apart again-¡° (Page33). This means that the police can destroy their houses at any time and nobody can stop them.
The second theme of this book is the dangers of poverty. An example of this is when Raphael tells us ¡°Every now and again the homes get torn down and the people get shopped out¡± (Page36). This means that houses built in illegal places by poor people can get destroyed by the police. And another example is when Raphael tells us ¡°If guards or even porter see you, you can get a real thrashing¡± (Page 39). This means that poor people like these three boys get caught by guards as people who work in dumpsite, they can get hurt. The last example is when Raphael tells us ¡°They¡¯d assume right away that we were thieving, and thieving boys get no mercy from anyone¡± (Page 40). This means that when poor people like these three boys thieve something and somebody notices this, they cannot be forgiven and will get hurt.

This is a story about 3 boys named Raphael, Gardo and Rat whose real name is Jun-Jun. the story begins when Raphael finds a bag while sorting trash in a dumpsite at Behala. Inside the bag, he finds a wallet, a map and a key which belongs to Jos Angelico. Police come to the dumpsite to find it and Raphael lies to them even her aunt made him suspicious by saying he said he found something. Soon, he and Gardo find out that the key is a locker key of Central Station from rat. They go to the station on a train and find the locker, open it and take the letter written in secret code which is to a prisoner.
One of the themes in trash is Police Corruption and violence. An example of this is when Gardo says “You think they’d give it?(Page.33). This means the police will not really pay the person who finds the bag, but will just get away with it. For another example, Raphael says “when police gets mean you don’t want to be around (page 29). This means if police gets angry, people can get hurt as the police have power but the people don’t.
Another theme is Dangers of Poverty. For an example, Raphael writes “We jumped early because you don’t ever want to be getting off the train if guard or ever porters see you, you can get a real thrashing. (Page 39) This means if guards & porters or anyone see kids who wears dirty clothes and smell that makes them looks poor, they will get suspicious so they would call police to beat them up. For another example, Raphael writes again “Thieving boys get no mercy from anyone (Page 40). This means if the boys get caught taking something not belongs to them, they will not be forgiven but get beaten up. lastly, it is when Raphael says " they wait till the night, break his legs and put him on the tracks" (page 41) This means your life can be at risk when the police suspect you as a criminal. You can't do anything because you have no power but the policemen does.
these are the themes of trash- part 1.

I think it was a prison. The police asked Raphael about the bag, but Raphael told the police that he didn’t find a bag. The police kept on asking Raphael about the bag thousands of times but because Raphael doesn’t want to be in trouble so he lied to the police. Later, the police is really mad and can’t control himself so he throw Raphael to the window, Raphael was scared so he have to honest.
One of the themes in Trash is Police Corruption and violence. An example of this is when Raphael says “when the police get mean, you don’t want to be around” (page 29). The last example is when Raphael says “do you really think they’ll give it?” (page 34). This means that they’ll make people work without paying so, now in Behala people don’t really trust police because they already know that they’re not honest.
The second theme of the book is the dangers of poverty. An example of this is when Raphael says “We jumped early because you don’t ever want to be seen getting off the train. If guards or even porters see you, you can get a real thrashing.” (page 39). By this he means that the boys are in danger of beaten up by the guards if they are caught as people who work on the dumpsite are not welcome on the trains. It means that poor people will be arrest in anytime because poor people have no power to be brave to talk to them or to win them. The last example is when Raphael says “they wait till night, break his legs and put him on the tracks.” It means that if police catch you, your life is at risk, you’ll hardly live or otherwise you’ll die.

When the police came to behala, Gardo and Raphael were so nervous and scared, but they act like they’re not scared. After that, they had some problem. Gardo suggested giving the bag back to police and getting the money, but Raphael believed that the police won’t give any money, so he never agrees to Gardo’s suggestion. One of the themes in Trash is Police Corruption and violence. An example of this is when Raphael says “when the police get mean, you don’t want to be around” (page 29). This means that the police can be violent if they become angry, they can do anything they want because no one really cares or even government don’t know this. THIS IS THE FIXED ONE
‘Trash’ is a book written by Andy Mulligan. This is a story about 3 boys named Raphael, Gardo and Rat whose real name is Jun-Jun. The story begins when Raphael finds a bag while sorting trash in a dumpsite at Behala. Inside the bag, he finds a wallet, a map and a key which belongs to José Angelico. Police come to the dumpsite to find it and Raphael lies to them. But his aunt made him suspicious by saying he said he found something. Soon, he and Gardo find out that the key is a locker key from Central Station from Rat. They go to the station on a train and find the locker, open it and take the letter written in secret code to a person in prison.
One of the themes in trash is Police Corruption and violence. An example of this is when Gardo says “Ten thousand of money…You think they’d give it?”(Page.33).This means the police will not really pay the person who finds the bag, but will just get away with it. For another example, Raphael says “when police gets mean you don’t want to be around” (page 29). This means if police gets angry, people can get hurt as the police have power but the people don’t.
Another theme is the Dangers of Poverty. For example, Raphael writes “We jumped early because you don’t ever want to be getting off the train… if guard or ever porters see you, you can get a real thrashing”. (Page 39) This means if guards & porters or anyone see kids who look too poor to travel on a train, they will get suspicious so they would call police to shoo them away and punish them. For another example, Raphael writes again “Thieving boys get no mercy from anyone” (Page 40). This means if the boys get caught taking something that doesn’t matches with their image, they will not be forgiven but get beaten up. Lastly, it is when Raphael says " If a new kid shows up with nowhere to go, they get him and wait till the night, break his legs and put him on the tracks" (page 41) This means your life can be at risk when the police pick on you when you are unfamiliar with the police. You can't do anything because you have no power but the policemen do.

Part 2 summary Part 2 of the book starts with Father Julliard. Father Julliard talks about Pascal Aguila. Pascal Aguila was the lawyer and he was the freedom fighter. It means he fought for the poor people. Pascal Aguila exposed senators stealing money but he was possibly killed by the police. Also, in chapter one, Raphael, Gardo and Rat researched about Jose Angelico and they had some information about him. In chapter 2, Raphael is taken by the police. As we know, police beat Raphael so badly and police were going to kill Raphael by putting him to the window. After all, because of Raphael’s determined he kept the secret until the end and he survived. He never gave up. In chapter 3, Raphael researched about the Jose Angelico, he was free from the jail but he was killed by police because Jose Angelico stole the money from vice president and sadly he had a daughter left alone from him. As you see, we are starting to see the links between Jose Angelico and Pascal Aguila. The examples are they both fought for poor, they both were poor when they were young, both killed by the police and they both involved with the government. The last thing I want to mention is, Raphael and Pascal Aguila, they both fight for the justice. This chapter is important because we learn about that the stories are getting some clues. We know how Jose Angelico and Pascal Aguila killed and what things they did, also, we know the violence of police. In chapter 2, the action increases with using the descriptive words and using the fast action. The author creates fast action by using many verbs in one sentence. Also, he uses lots of descriptive words and it makes the story more interesting. We learned that Raphael is determined like he kept the secret. Raphael is not selfish and thinks deeply because he cares about his friends and aunt so that’s why he kept the secret until the end even though police kept beaten him up. Also, we know that Raphael is solving the problem about the Jose Angelico and he has lots of information about him in his brain. Andy Mulligan creates suspense by putting lots of verbs and interesting adjectives. He also uses idiom. Jose Angelico is the one who has a similarity with Pascal Aguila. Like I said, Jose Angelico was killed by the police and he stole money from vice president. He is thirty three years old man and he is a house boy, also, he is a good man. One of the themes in part 2 of trash is police’s violence. One of the examples is “I was lifted up and they were carrying me to the windows. (pg.63)”. This means that police were tried to kill Raphael by throwing him towards the window. Another example of police’s violence is “I don’t know where he hit me or what with, but I was knocked to the floor (pg.61).” This means that the police don’t care about the kid and they just beat and slap the kid. No cares. They never think about the kid and they’re just crazy about getting the answer. So this is my summary ;D min juice 7K

:)Ms. Katrina~. This is summary of part 2. I hope its not too long. SUMMARY OF PART 2 OF TRASH MINJU KIM 7D Part 2 of the book starts with Father Julliard discussing about Pascal Aguila. He also talks about Pascal Aguila Mission School, and why he respects Pascal Aguila. This chapter is important because we learn about Pascal Aguila, who built the Pascal Aguila Mission School. Raphael talks about Jose Angelico at the last part. Anyway, Father Julliard has been running Pascal Aguila Mission School. Father Julliard said that Pascal Aguila wanted to build things to make life better. He spoke twelve languages, and he started off with poor, and then wanted to help poor. He also exposed senators who were stealing public money. And he could be assassinated by corrupt police. In chapter 2, the action increases when Raphael is getting thrashing from police. Raphael was kept on saying that he didn¡¯t find a bag because he knew what police will do to him if he says he found it. The author creates fast action by putting many verbs in that sentence. There is a paragraph with fast action, which is: ¡°The policeman didn¡¯t kick me. He reached down, grabbed me, and he and the man in the suit lifted me up by the hair and an arm, and I was put back in the chair.¡±-Page 61. These sentences have a lot of verbs, such as, kick, reached, grabbed, lifted, and put. We learned that Raphael is very brave boy. Although he was in police station and getting thrashing, he was lying to police to protect the people that he knows in dumpsites. I think Andy Mulligan makes suspense by making the background calm and quiet. Such as: ¡°It was raining and cool.¡±-Page 68. That sentence feels calm and quiet. And during chapter three and four, we got a lot of information about Jose Angelico. Jose Angelico was kind, gentle, trustworthy, and honest. And he had a daughter named Pia Dante, and she is eight years old. When he was young, he was orphan, and Dante Jerome Olondriz (son of Gabriel Olondriz) adopted Jose Angelico. And he stole six hundred dollars, so he was caught by police. I think one of the themes in part 2 of Trash is also police corruption too, same as part 1 theme. Although there are some information about Pascal Aguila, and Jose Angelico, the point is that the police was trying to kill him by hitting him and hanging outside of window to make him tell the truth.

Trash by Andy Mulligan is about three boys Raphael, Gardo and Rat (Jun-Jun), a crime and a rubbish dump called ‘Behala’. This essay although is more focused about Rat. Rat is an 11 year old boy who lives a lonely life in the worst part of Behala. He has no family or friends, and his only companions are the rats who surround him. He is quite unattractive, isolated and focused on survival without relying on others. He transforms throughout the novel and demonstrates bravery, clever ideas, physical and intellectual skills. Rat helps Raphael and Gardo to solve this mysterious crime by hiding a bag and persuading people to get what they want. He can be a deceitful but loving person who not only cares about himself but others and their futures. hope you like it
